MINUTES OF THE MULL COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING
HELD
ON WEDNESDAY 11TH MAY 2005

A welcome was extended to Mr.
Bill Green from the Forestry Commission, who gave a presentation on
the felling and restocking requirements for Garmony and Lettermore.
2. Minutes of the April
Meeting:
With the exception of the
following amendment, these were approved as an accurate record.

3. Matters Arising:
3.1
Salen Footways:
Timescale required for any
funding which may become available. Letter to be sent to Neil Brown
at Argyll and Bute Council.

3.2
Cal-Mac ferry
complaint:
Linda Cameron informed members
of the response from Cal-Mac to Mrs. Russell’s original complaint.
Other areas of concern raised: waiting room only open half hour
before sailing, charge imposed for toilets, unable to leave
luggage. E-mail also received from Jenny Reddaway, Tobermory
highlighting other areas of concern. Further meeting held next
week. Ronnie would update members at the next
meeting.

4. Correspondence:
4.1
Letter received from the Head Teacher at Bunessan School regarding
the proposed 20 mph speed limit signs. Linda Cameron informed
members of the content. Due to the proposed variance in speeds
approaching the school, this could be dangerous and cause an
accident. It was also noted that the Head Teacher had not been
consulted about the proposal. Linda Cameron agreed to keep the
Community Council
informed.

4.2
Letter received from
Duncan Swinbanks, Mull and Iona Swimming Pool Association. The
Sportscotland grant for £192,897 has been approved. Balance of
£300,000 still required
4.3 Letter from R. Cowper
Argyll and Bute Council re anti-social behaviour order. Apologies
would be sent for delay in responding. Comments would be welcome.
Committee will be updated on progress.
4.4 Letter from Association
of Community Councils. AGM to be held in Inverary 4th June 2005.
Send reply, unable to send
representative.

4.5 Response received from
Steve Barlow re letter of complaint from the residents of St.
Mary’s. Linda Cameron informed members of the content. Once again
Community Council cannot get involved in neighbourly disputes
5. Elections for the
Community Council:
Linda Cameron had spoken to
Jane Gillies, Argyll and Bute Council. Elections will take place
for the vacant seats. John Wilson has agreed to be the Returning
Officer. It was suggested that Jim Corbett, Lochbuie and Bert
Leitch, Ulva Ferry be co-opted on to the committee for the roads
issue only. All present agreed. It was hoped they would stand for
re-election.
6. Marquee:
One section sent away for
emergency repair, extra pegs purchased. Cost £170.38 plus transport
cost. Marquee will have complete overhaul and repair at the end of
the season. Legal advice to be sought about insurance. Check with
Jim Corbett whether Rugby Club borrowed the floor. Tony Proud
agreed to send a cheque for the
container.

offer made by John Clayton for marquee. Action: BL
7. Finance Report:
The final accounts have been
audited. Copy will be given out at the next meeting. The closing
balance in the account
is:
£2017.75
8. Roads and Transport:
Ø No letter on the
proposed weight restrictions received by Craignure or Lochdon
residents. Maureen Dehany to be
contacted.

Ø Islanders are receiving
a response from Nicol Stephen MSP.
Ø Noted that Tony Proud
attended a Planning meeting in Oban when roads were discussed. Also
the Garmony sea wall will be repaired.
Ø It is hoped that MP’s
MSP’s and the Press will attend the public meeting on 27th May,
Craignure.
Ø E-mail received from
Councillor MacDougall. Argyll and Bute Council is to withdraw the
current proposals for Ledaig Car Park, Tobermory following a
significant number of objections to the proposed scheme of charges.
Ø Following a recent
motorcycle accident at Glen Forsa, no warning signs put up to alert
drivers. Letter to Kaz Rigby, Argyll and Bute
Council.

8.1 Public Meeting on
Proposed Weight Restrictions:
Ø 8 p.m. Friday 27th May
2005 at Craignure Hall.
Ø Local people will be
asked to speak and Ronnie Campbell agreed to speak on behalf of The
National Farmers Union. Other business would be contacted.
Ø Poster would be prepared
advertising the event, to be displayed in prominent areas
Ø It was agreed that the
petition would be handed to the MSP’s at the meeting
9. Local Reports from
Community Councillors:
9.1 Paul
Forster, Salen:
Ø Fire Station – Letter to
be sent to Strathclyde Fire Service supporting the concerns of the
local volunteer fire
service

9.2 Ronnie
Campbell, Bunessan:
Ø Queried whether the
Community Council had received a copy of the Local Plan. Linda
Dawson reported that copies would be sent out shortly.
Ø Wished it to be noted
that no election candidates had visited the island since the
election.
