COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING
HELD ON WEDNESDAY 13TH JULY 2005

1. Apologies:

A welcome was extended to Mr. Adrian Fitness the
newly elected member for Craignure/Lochdon. Linda Cameron also
welcomed back Jim Corbett, Lochbuie and Bert Leitch, Ulva Ferry.
Closing date for Tobermory elections 14th July 2005.
Count 2 p.m. Friday 15th July Argyll and Bute Council
Offices, Tobermory. The nominated representatives have been invited
to see the count.
2. Minutes of the meeting held Wednesday
8th June 2005:
These were approved as an accurate record.
Proposed by Ronnie Campbell, seconded by Tony Proud.
3. Matters Arising:
3.1
Salen Fire Station:
No reply received from Strathclyde Fire Service.
Follow up letter to be sent requesting response. New uniforms and
breathing apparatus have been
provided.

Only minutes of meetings would be displayed
4. Correspondence:
4.1
Seating at Fionnphort:
Reply received from Neil Brown, Argyll and Bute
Council stating: Work is being arranged for this summer. I will ask
our property maintenance staff to expedite the repairs to avoid
completing them just as the tourist season ends.”
4.2
Ulva Ferry School House:
Reply received from West Highland Housing
Association Limited stating: This property was allocated in May
2005. To date no-one living in the property.
4.3
Proposed Statutory 20 mph
Speed Limited-Tobermory Hill Area:
Committee agreed with the proposals as set out.

planned trial run, not yet happened

Electricity Pole at
Oakfield, Tobermory:

5. Archipelago Forum:
Linda Cameron explained about the Forum and its
aims. Letter also received from Dougie Reed, Tobermory, gave
apologies for being unable to attend the meeting. Linda informed
members of the content. Agreed to invite a representative from the
Forum and other people concerned to the September meeting.
6. Renewable Energy Forum:
Paul Forster gave an update:

Roadshow planned for 21st/22nd September one
at both Bunessan and Craignure, 2-5 with an evening slot. Advice
and products on various forms of renewable energy and energy
efficiency

Bill
received from Argyll and Bute College for loan of projector for
public meeting on wood chip. Reduced from £100 to £60. £20
requested from Renewable Energy Forum, MICT and Chamber of
Commerce. Agreed to pay

seeking views of residents on wind farms in general on the island.

Tony Proud-Dervaig:
The road signs in Dervaig are not clearly marked
causing confusion to tourists. Letter to Neil Brown, Argyll and

the proposed swimming pool and progressive care centre, important to

9. Proposed Weight Restrictions:
Linda Cameron gave an update:
Ø
Councillor MacDougall reported that the Strategic Policy Committee
of Argyll and Bute Council fully support the undertaking of an
economic and social impact study. This will enable funding to be
approved to improve the state of the roads on the island

The
campaign “Keep Mull Moving” is heading in the right direction
Ø
Further meeting of the sub-group 21st July, Linda agreed
to keep the committee informed

10. Local Reports from Community
Councillors:

Fiona Brown-Pennyghael/Tiroran:

From
September 2005, Clydesdale mobile bank van will no longer be going
round the island; this is due in part to the Disability
Discrimination Act, disabled access required. Letter to Clydesdale
Bank, copy George Lyon MSP and Ross Finnie MSP, stating Committee
strongly object. It was noted that from 2008 rural Post Offices
would also have to provide disabled access.

Request from a resident in Salen to erect a screen on the road side
at Pennygowan Cemetery. Letter to Alison MacIllroy at Argyll and

Bert Leitch-Ulva Ferry:

Problem with tourists using the wrong side of the road at passing
places. Request CalMac display the leaflets on the ferry in a more
prominent position, requesting drivers to keep to the left hand side
of the road
